Corners are where waterproofing fails. At the floor-to-wall junction, and at every corner, the membrane has to fold in three directions at once. Folding it by hand leaves creases, and that is where the water eventually gets through.

These preformed pieces already have the shape built in: bond them into the angle and the corner is watertight.
