On a balcony there is little floor and a lot of edge. Almost all the water ends up passing through a single point, and that point is exactly where the waterproofing has a hole: the drain.
That is why most leaks into the flat below do not come from the middle of the balcony, but from the junction between the drain and the membrane.
The problem with the traditional drain
An ordinary drain is fitted and then you try to seal the membrane around it with mastic or offcuts. That hand-made joint is the weak link: with heat and cold cycles it ends up peeling away.
The solution: a factory-integrated membrane
The OUTDRAIN LEVEL 20 comes with an ECODRY50 membrane bonded around its entire perimeter at the factory. There is no joint to make on site: you bond that membrane to the terrace membrane and the assembly stays watertight.
It is also tileable: it is covered with the balcony's own flooring, so the drain disappears visually. All that is left is a thin joint through which the water enters.

What if the balcony drains through a scupper?
Many old balconies drain through a pipe that passes through the parapet. In that case the part you need is the scupper, which also comes with its integrated 50 × 50 cm membrane. Choose the diameter to suit your pipe: Ø50, Ø75, Ø90 or Ø110 mm.
Don't forget the perimeter
The other critical point on a balcony is the junction between the floor and the parapet. That is where 90° pre-folded tape and preformed corners go at the angles. They are parts costing a few euros that prevent the most expensive repair.
